The 29.6-metre Amer motor yacht Angiola sank on Tuesday evening, 11 August, in the waters between Poltu Quatu and Porto Cervo, off Capo Ferro on Sardinia's Costa Smeralda.

According to local reports, a small fire broke out in the yacht's engine room before the vessel began to sink. The fire was reportedly extinguished, after which the 14 people onboard, including guests and crew, were transferred to another vessel and taken to Poltu Quatu. No injuries have been reported.

The La Maddalena Coast Guard responded to the incident. By the time of the rescue operation, Angiola was partially submerged in the waters off Capo Ferro.

Containment booms have since been placed around the yacht, with no fuel leakage into the sea reported at the time of writing. A company is expected to carry out the necessary removal operations, while investigations remain ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.

Local reports stated that the yacht had recently sold and had been delivered four days before the incident. Angiola was first launched by Italian shipyard Permare under the Amer Yachts brand, in July 2020 as the sixth hull in the Amer F100 series (previously known as the Amer Cento series).

Angiola features exterior design and naval architecture by Verme Projects, while her interior was penned by Wilmotte & Associés Architectes. Constructed with a GRP hull and superstructure, the 145 GT yacht accommodates up to 10 guests across five staterooms, alongside quarters for five crew members.

In terms of propulsion, Angiola is powered by four Volvo Penta engines, providing a cruising speed of 21 knots and a top speed of 26 knots. 

Angiola was previously known as The Limbo and Arsana.
