It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frans Heesen, the founder of Heesen Yachts. Frans passed away peacefully on 23 April 2025 in his hometown of Oss, the Netherlands.
Frans Heesen leaves behind a legacy as one of the most influential figures in the Dutch yachting industry. Known for his visionary leadership and unwavering determination, he founded Heesen Yachts in 1978 and led the company through a transformative period of innovation and expansion.
A defining moment in Frans' career came with the construction of the groundbreaking motor yacht Octopussy, which pushed the boundaries of speed and design. The project not only broke records as the ‘world’s fastest yacht’ but also catapulted Heesen Yachts to international prominence.
Frans was widely admired for his ability to recognise and nurture talent. His leadership style created a sense of unity within the shipyard, cultivating a close-knit environment that many likened to a family. Even after the company changed ownership, the values and spirit instilled by Frans continued to resonate throughout the yard.
“Frans’ contributions have left an indelible mark on the yachting industry and everyone who had the honour of working with him,” commented Heesen Yachts. “His presence will be profoundly missed, but his spirit and vision will forever remain a guiding force at Heesen Yachts."
Frans is survived by his wife Petra, his children and grandchildren.
SuperYacht Times extends its deepest condolences to Frans Heesen’s family, friends and all those at Heesen Yachts during this time of loss.
