Responsibilities and Duties: Navigation and Watchkeeping: The 2nd Officer is responsible for maintaining the ship's course, ensuring safe passage, and monitoring the ship's position and surroundings. Bridge Operations: They oversee the bridge and its equipment, including navigation and radio systems. Chart Upkeep: They are responsible for maintaining and updating charts and navigational software. Safety and Security: They may be designated as the vessel's safety, security, or medical officer, ensuring compliance with regulations and procedures. Crew Training: They may assist in training crew members in safety procedures and emergency protocols. Documentation and Reporting: They are responsible for maintaining accurate records of the ship's voyage and reporting any incidents or issues to the Master or Staff Captain. Stability Calculations: They assist with daily ship's stability calculations, ensuring the vessel complies with regulations. Watertight Doors: They monitor the status of watertight doors during watches. Mooring Stations: They attend mooring stations as instructed by the Staff Captain. Tank Inspections: They carry out tank inspections as delegated by the Staff Captain. Environmental Regulations: They are knowledgeable of relevant environmental regulations within the itinerary that the vessel is sailing in. Handover Reports: They prepare handover reports prior to leaving the vessel. Other duties as assigned.
